Stannol publishes second DNK declaration
For the second time, Stannol GmbH & Co KG has submitted a voluntary sustainability declaration as part of the German Sustainability Code (DNK). The report deals with the specific sustainability strategies and measures that the company implemented in 2023. In accordance with twenty defined DNK criteria and performance indicators, Stannol provides detailed information on areas such as resource management, climate-relevant emissions, responsibility and human rights.
Focus on fair and recycled tin
"We were able to further improve in many areas. For example, the proportion of fair and recycled tin is now 93 per cent - that's almost 40 per cent more than in 2020. Our clear strategy is to cover our needs exclusively with recycled and fair tin. This is our most important area of action in the supply chain in order to reduce our environmental impact," emphasises Susanne Schlüter, Management Assistant and responsible for the report. By switching to green electricity, biogas and consistently changing its vehicle fleet strategy, the company has also been able to reduce its emissions by 90 per cent since 2019 (2019: 750 tCO2e; 2023: 70 tCO2e).
The DNK database
The Sustainability Code was developed by the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE). It was first appointed in 2001 by the then Federal Government. The Code supports companies in developing a sustainability strategy and provides an introduction to structured sustainability reporting. If reports are submitted regularly, the development of the company can be tracked over time.
The Sustainability Code database can also be used to directly compare the reports of over 1,000 registered companies. The Code provides guidance on how the CSR reporting obligation and the National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights can be implemented in practice. Users include large and small, public and private companies that are subject to reporting requirements as well as those that are not.
